Introduction
Aman Health’s flagship initiative, the Aman Ambulance, changed the landscape of emergency care in Pakistan and is the first state-of-the-art ambulance network providing round-the-clock emergency care in the province of Sindh. With a fleet of 60 ambulances in Karachi, the service also holds the recognition of being awarded the ‘Best in Asia’ EMS Service Award, in 2014, by the Asian Emergency Council.
As per World Health Organization guidelines, the 20 million population of Karachi requires at least 200 life-saving ambulances. In line with our vision of bringing about systemic change by incubating public service initiatives for the underserved, and scaling them through strategic partnerships, Aman Health has partnered with Government of Sindh to provide quality and free of cost emergency medical services to the citizens of Karachi. Therefore, the fleet of 60 Aman ambulances has been relaunched in the name of Sindh Rescue and Medical Services (SRMS) in May 2019. This marked the initiation of Karachi’s first ever government backed, free of cost, life-saving ambulance service being operated by Aman Health Care Services.
Our Strategy
As done previously by Aman ambulances, Sindh Rescue and Medical Services run on international protocols such as the Medical Priority Dispatch System, equipped with the latest medical equipment, life-saving drugs and staffed with trained paramedics. The service provides a tiered emergency response system with Basic Life Support Ambulances and Advanced Life Support Ambulances equipped with AED machines and cardiac monitors. In addition, Advanced Cardiac Life Support Ambulances are equipped with ECG machines, which is a unique service available in Karachi.
Operating through a Command and Control Centre powered with real-time tracking and a wireless communications network, the service aims to:
– Stabilize and transport patients from the site of injury or illness to healthcare facilities.
– Address common emergencies such as cardiac arrest, accidents, injuries, and obstetric emergencies.
– Reduce the incidence of loss of life due to inadequate emergency response.
